JF asks: I envision “rewriting” as cleaning up this sentence, correcting that misspelling, polishing that paragraph, and adjusting the inconsistencies between these chapters. I sense that others see “rewriting” as starting again from scratch and writing a whole new 80,000 to 100,000 words, while keeping the original draft somewhere in the back of your mind. What do *you* mean by it, and is there a “right” way to rewrite?
