After a childhood in academia, J. What’s trending now in indie publishing is what some call “Tough Guy Urban Fantasy.” It’s sort of a response to the dominance of female lead characters in UF and the genre’s slide into Paranormal Romance. However, a TON of authors have recently jumped on this bandwagon, so I don’t know how long it will last. But there is definitely a more noirish feel, and the vampires aren’t boyfriends and/or girlfriends anymore. They’re a scary again. Yay!
