How do you decide where to start new chapters and scenes?

After a childhood in academia, J. How do you organize your finances with regards to US tax law? Do you incorporate your writing name? If so, can my equipment/research be deducted from taxes? I’ve thought about incorporating my pen name to simplify taxes, thoughts?
